2020 GMC SIERRA 1500: FULL-SIZE POWER; MID-SIZE AGILITY

August 13th, 2020 by

GMC’s new 2020 Sierra 1500 is a powerful and surprisingly agile addition to Kevin Grover Buick GMC’s lineup, which won’t fail to impress drivers that need a workhorse to tow heavy loads and look good while doing it.

PERFORMANCE: HEAVY-DUTY RESPONSIVENESS
The Sierra 1500 comes with a large number of engine options, including its standard 4.3L V6, a turbocharged 2.7L, a 5.3L or 6.2L V8, and a 3.0L turbodiesel.

The turbodiesel is the most solid, balanced option by far, providing 277 horsepower and a phenomenal 460 lbs. of torque which let it tow multi-ton loads without breaking a sweat.

On the road, the turbodiesel’s power lets the Sierra 1500’s heavy frame zip around with agility one wouldn’t expect from a full-size pickup. Available four-wheel drive will have it tackling rough work and rough roads while still providing a smooth ride.

That power comes with efficiency, too: an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 30 MPG on the highway, saving time and money at the gas pump.

INTERIOR: STRAIGHTFORWARD AND INTUITIVE
The interior GMC is offering with the Sierra 1500 may be a bit basic for some, but it’s undeniably comfortable and optimized for driver-friendliness.

Heated cushions, power-adjustable seating and ample legroom guarantees an enjoyable ride for driver and passenger alike. The Crew Cab configuration provides 43 inches of legroom for front and rear seating along with over 40 inches of headroom, which means a lot for larger and taller drivers that want to avoid cramps on long trips. Optional leather upholstery only adds to the cab’s sophistication.

The standard tech is modern and cutting-edge: an infotainment system with a 7-inch touchscreen, six-speaker audio subsystem, and phone connectivity features. Taking advantage of the available options only expands the Sierra 1500’s high-tech nature, with automatic climate control, a seven-speaker Bose audio system, and a larger 8-inch touchscreen giving the truck the prestige it deserves.

GMC’s infotainment system is straightforward just like the rest of the cab. A touchscreen is paired with physical buttons to keep eyes on the road when drivers need to make navigational adjustments. It uses a series of intuitive menus to make pairing your phone or operating the Sierra’s numerous features a seamless, easy task.

EXTERIOR: A TOUGH BEAST
A work truck needs to be ready for hard labor and all it entails. The Sierra 1500 doesn’t disappoint, with its large cargo bed (available in 8′, 6.5′, and 5.65′ lengths) and MultiPro extending tailgate.

First, the pretty stuff. Aluminum wheels, polished chrome accents, and seven paint jobs ranging from Quartz Red to Onyx Black provide a bold, refined look to the Sierra 1500 without sacrificing the rugged charm its workhorse functionality brings to the table. Choosing one of the higher-level trims will reward drivers with specialized upgrades, like off-road tires and higher lift.

GMC offers a CarbonPro package for the AT4 and Denali trims that upgrades the cargo bed with state-of-the-art carbon fiber—lighter, stronger, and more corrosion-resistant than most competing materials.

Then there’s the MultiPro tailgate, which utilizes a multi-hinged design to expand and adapt to the size of your load. A stopper for extended loads and folding cutout stairs for easier cargo bed access are only a few of the conveniences that can be expected from GMC’s MultiPro tailgate, a unique inclusion for the Sierra 1500.

SAFETY: DRIVER-FRIENDLY ASSISTANCE
Whether novices or veterans, all drivers can appreciate the Sierra 1500’s safety capabilities which landed it a five-star driver-side safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The included rearview camera and Teen Driver limiters (for audio volume and speed) make this a prime entryway for driving full-size trucks, if the nimble turbodiesel wasn’t convincing enough.

Of course, the Sierra’s optional safety features might interest everyone, not just new drivers. Opting for the adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, and dashboard heads-up display will take a lot of the stress off morning commutes.

OVERALL: A POWERFUL, SOPHISTICATED CHOICE
The GMC Sierra 1500 skillfully combines the ruggedness of a full-size truck with the agility of a mid-sizer, all while sporting refined aesthetic and innovative technological capabilities.

While the price point of higher trims may feel a bit steep, the features included make it well worth it.

That being said, we at Kevin Grover Buick GMC know that every driver has their own needs. Whether it’s cab size, trim levels, or safety tech, our team is ready to discuss the process from top to bottom, so you can drive home in a vehicle that will last you for years to come.
