Technology Overview
The 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 has state-of-the-art technology. Starting with a 15-inch color screen mounted in the dashboard directory in front of the driver. This technology is called a “Head-Up Display” it lets the driver see all the essential things on the dash while still being able to see the road. The screen displays the following:
• Low fuel warnings
• Speed
• Navigation
• Off-road clinometer
• Tachometer
• Visual safety alerts
• Phone
Trailer System
This truck also has a screen for the trailering system that shows the driver things like the trailer’s tire pressure, light sequence, step-by-step pre-departure checklist, the trailer fuel, and mileage stats. The driver is alerted if the trailer is going to jackknife. Hitch guidance technology allows the driver to back up in alignment with the trailer hitch.
Rear Trailer View Mirror
This camera allows the driver to see objects, pedestrians, or vehicles that may be behind the trailer — preventing a collision. While also providing assistance while backing up, the trailer and truck are positioned correctly in a parking space.
Rear Side View Mirror
This camera allows the driver to see a split view to see both sides of the trailer. While driving, the camera will enable you to know the angle and make sure it’s safe to change lanes. The driver will be notified with an alert if it is not safe to change lanes.
Infotainment System
The 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 infotainment system comes with a multicolor touch-screen. Your choice of a seven or eight-inch screen that connects to your smartphone comes with the MYGMC app and other downloadable apps. You can hook up two devices at once and have storage for ten devices. You can program and store your driver settings, so they are always available when you drive the truck.
Driver Assistance Technology
Driver assistance technology is also known as the safety features. The 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 has numerous safety features to help keep you and your passengers safe. Some of the safety features are included below.
Adaptive Cruise Control
As you steer, Adaptive Cruise Control will retain a gap time from any detected car you’re following. This function eliminates the need to brake and accelerate frequently while driving.
IntelliBeam
When driving during dusk or in the dark IntelliBeam headlamps will automatically switch on when there isn’t any traffic heading toward your truck and off when it senses oncoming traffic. Once the traffic passes, the headlamps will automatically switch back to high beams.
Front and Rear Park Assist
This feature will warn you about nearby objects detected in the front of or behind your truck, helping you park your truck and avoid a collision.
Automatic Emergency Braking
Automatic emergency braking works in concurrence with Forward Collision Warning to help you prevent or minimize the impact of a front-end collision with a vehicle you’re following. This function is only active at speeds less than 50 mph. Imaging technology is used to provide automatic emergency braking or to assist the driver with hard braking.
Safety Alert Seat
Safety alert seats use vibration pulses from the left, right, or both sides of the driver seat to help you recognize the direction of a possible collision, so you can react quickly. Crash avoidance warnings may also be switched to beeping.
Teen Driver
Teen Driver encourages young drivers to practice safe driving. Its features have the ability to unlock some of the accessible safety mechanisms automatically and allow the parent to set additional safety features. Parents can also use an in-vehicle report to help them provide needed assistance for their teen driver.
Side Blind Zone Alert
When a moving vehicle is sensed in one of the side blind zones, the driver is alerted.
Front Pedestrian Braking
When an impending collision with a pedestrian is detected, if your truck moves at less than 50 mph, front pedestrian braking will warn you. It can also help mitigate the impact of the crash or prevent it entirely by applying emergency braking automatically. At night, this safety feature is limited.
The 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 comes with a lot of great technology in the standard package. You can upgrade your technology/safety package and receive even more features.
