5 SPRING CLEANING TIPS FOR YOUR CAR
It’s spring, and that means that it’s time to clean out your car. Realistically, there’s no perfect season for cleaning inside and outside of your car – it should be done all year long. At Kevin Grover Buick GMC, we want to ensure your car looks and runs its best. As such, we have a few tips to help you with the cleaning process.
Clean Out the Interior
The interior needs to be cleaned out in stages. If you’re not one to pick up as you go, this could be quite a time-consuming task. The good news is that if you take it step-by-step, it’s not too overwhelming.
- Clear out all debris
- Vacuum
- Get into the nooks and crannies
Remember that you’ll want to get out debris in every aspect of your car – glove compartment, center console, and trunk. Any excess trash can unnecessarily weigh your car down. Plus, some trash may add to the unusual odors you have throughout the interior.
Various brushes can be purchased to help you clean the dust (and crumbs) away from leather stitching and hard-to-reach areas.
Change Out the Floor Mats
As you’re coming out of the winter months, you may have been dealing with snow and mud. If you had rubber or all-weather mats in place, clean them off and put them into storage. Now is the time for you to break out your color-coordinated carpeted floor mats.
If you don’t have carpeted mats, you can still use your rubber ones. Just be sure that all dirt is off of them. This way, you’re not adding to the dirt (and smell) inside of your car.
Use Multiple Products for the Exterior
The exterior of your vehicle is comprised of a variety of different materials. You’ll want to ensure that each one is properly cleaned and protected. There’s no such thing as a cleaner that can clean everything perfectly. So, you’ll want to invest in a few different products to help you with cleaning and protecting:
- Car wash
- Car wax
- Tire/wheel cleaner
- Glass cleaner
Start with the car wash to get all of the dirt off. Then, use all of the other products as directed. If you do find that you have some dirt embedded into the surface of your clear coat, you can use a clay bar to help you remove those.
When you’re all done, apply the wax so that your car is better protected when you’re in the sun. If you really want an extra layer of protection, look into having your vehicle ceramic coated.
Clean Your Windows Inside and Out
Cleaning your windows is an important process, too. You might not realize that dirt can accumulate over time, making it hard for you to have full visibility. This makes it harder to drive (and a lot more dangerous).
Special glass cleaner designed for auto glass will get the job done effectively without leaving streaks. Be sure that you clean all of the glass throughout your car – front and back windshields, glass on the doors, and anywhere else. You’ll also want to clean both sides. Fingerprints, dust, and more can accumulate on the interior – and you don’t want anything that could hinder your view of the road.
Add Some Air Freshener
The air freshener that you choose is a personal preference. Depending on who (or what) rides in your car, you’ll want to choose a freshener that is capable of getting the job done.
Particularly when you have pets, you may want to consider a box of baking soda hidden under one of your seats. Otherwise, find an air freshener that you like that you can hang around the rearview mirror or even plug onto one of the air vents. The added fresh smell will be sure to help you love your car a bit more in the spring and beyond.
Remember, there are other things that need to be cleaned (or replaced) inside of your car, too. This includes air filters, fuel filters, and more. You can schedule service with us at Kevin Grover Buick GMC. Plus, should you ever decide that it’s time to upgrade to a new vehicle, we’re here to help you with all of your car-buying needs.
